We Moved!

24th October 2017

CharlestonSome of you may know that for the past three and a half years I have lived in Hoboken, New Jersey. Growing up in England, it was always my dream to one day work in New York City and in 2014 an exciting opportunity came up which gave me the chance to live out that dream. I packed my suitcases, said goodbye to my little studio in Dublin (where I had been living for nearly 5 years) and hopped on a plane to the ‘Big Apple’. Was it everything I hoped for and more? Absolutely! It was the most incredible experience and I truly loved every second of it. Over the past year, however, Joe and I started to get itchy feet, we were ready for a lifestyle change, a different pace, and more space.

We had visited Charleston, South Carolina on a number of occasions and instantly fell in love with the city and surrounding areas. From the moment we touched down on a visit several years ago we knew that one day we would move here. So a month or two ago when a new opportunity came up with a tech company in the Charleston area, we jumped on it… and now here we are! We’re three weeks into living in this beautiful city surrounded by beaches, palm trees and are happier than ever. While the temperature isn’t quite the Autumn weather I’m used to, I’m loving the warmth while still getting to see the leaves on the trees change colour. I’m so excited about this new chapter of our lives and to share new projects with you on Paper Vines from here in Charleston!

Day Trip // Red Hook, Brooklyn

6th July 2016

A couple of weeks ago we decided to take a day trip to Red Hook, Brooklyn. We first heard about the area one night at a Valentine’s Day whiskey + chocolate pairing class at The Flatiron Room in NYC. The class was given by the Head Distiller of Widow Jane distillery, and saw us tasting 6 whiskeys from across the world whilst pairing each with different flavours of Cacao Prieto chocolate, an artisanal, organic bean-to-bar chocolate. Who would have thought that whiskey and chocolate could pair so well?

During the evening our teacher gave us a little more background about the Widow Jane whiskey that he distilled and told us how it was produced locally in Red Hook, Brooklyn. He also explained that Widow Jane is part of the Cacao Prieto Distillery (hence the pairing) and that they offer daily tours of both the chocolate and whiskey production facilities. So we decided to wait a couple of months until the weather warmed up and ventured out for a day trip to Red Hook.

September Snapshot

9th October 2013

SeptemberWhile we are well in to the month of October, I wanted to share a brief snapshot of my September. I was extremely lucky to get the chance to spend last month Stateside. From sailing down the Hudson River with my closest ladies to picking apples in upstate New York (and using them to bake a delicious gluten free apple pie), it was an incredible trip to say the least and it was during this time I found out I had made the Shortlist for the Blog Awards Ireland which of course gave an excuse to celebrate.

From rowing boats in Central Park to attending the most beautiful outdoor wedding in Vernon, New Jersey it truly was an unforgettable trip.
